The role of filters in power lines
Filters help separate useful signals from unwanted disturbances.
In electronics, a waveform describes how a quantity such as voltage or current changes over time. Sensors convert physical quantities into electrical signals that can be processed, transmitted and interpreted.
Signals can be affected by interference during generation, conversion and transmission. A filter changes the frequency content of a signal, helping reduce unwanted components while retaining the components required by a circuit.
In power-line applications, filtering is used to address unwanted electrical noise. The appropriate filter depends on the circuit and its operating conditions.
